When I first found out about Yosemite National Park all that really came to mind was the idea of it just being a giant park. I also believe that is the kind of mentality most have of Yosemite before visiting the park. I am sure they see the beauty but they don’t understand the meaning behind all the greatness. However, the best way to really find out the true meaning behind Yosemite and why it is so special is to actually visit the site and live it. I was lucky to experience and visit Yosemite and was mind blown by the richness and culture behind everything I was able to witness.
I believe Yosemite National park has Authorized Heritage Discourse because its culture can be interpreted in many different ways. The reason behind this is because Yosemite connects with every individual in a different way. Some people when they go to Yosemite immediately fall in love with its beauty and form a spiritual connection with the park. Other people see nature and the animals as being the primary culture and heritage of the park. However, that is what authorize heritage discourse is, the way a certain site makes people feel and they connections it forms with it. It also leaves it open for interpretation for people to capture different meanings of Yosemite.
Another example of why we can connect Yosemite National park to authorized heritage discourse is because of how it relates to native Americans and their heritage. Yosemite has plenty of ties with native Americans because it is seen as a sacred site that holds spiritual meaning. The connection between Yosemite and the native Americans can be seen as another form of authorized heritage discourse because the history they have with the park. Native Americans played an important role in the history of Yosemite and Yosemite played a vital role in the lifestyles of the native tribes living withing the park’s borders. In conclusion I believe that Yosemite has plenty of authorized heritage discourse because its heritage can be understood in different ways that has formed connections with different groups.
